in 1998 our tour down the westcoast brought us to Santa Cruz and the renown statue of Thomas Jefferson Scribner.

I met Tom Scribner at Club Zayante in the Santa Cruz mountains. I had my guitar, and Tom had his saw. We played “Whispering” Together. Someone took a picture of us which I still have.
“Whispering” was first recorded by Paul Whiteman for Victor, in 1920 and the solo in the chorus sounds like it was played on a musical saw. However it seems more likely to have been played on a slide whistle. But its perfect for the musical saw.
